La Mondiale – The Columbus Run II

The Atlantic Challenge December 2007
Columbus Run II is a Blue Ribbon Ocean Rowing Event and World Record attempt to set the fastest non-powered crossing of the Atlantic Ocean. The 14-man crew will set off on the 2,550 nautical mile (3,060 road miles) route in December 2007... [ learn more ]

The World Record Target
The existing record was set in 1992 by a French crew in the same Ocean Rowing Boat 'La Mondiale' (now 'Ocean Row Events Challenger') and stands at 35 days, 8 hours and 30 mins. The boat has been upgraded and is faster than ever, but will it succeed? [ read more ]

How to Play and help the MS Society
To win a Toyota AYGO you will need to accurately predict La Mondiale's crossing time. It costs £1 per entry and the player with the closest prediction to the official crossing time will win a Toyota AYGO ... [ play here - closed ]

Top 5 Prediction Tips
The 2,550 nautical mile route (3,060 road miles) is 'as the crow flies' and the actual distance rowed
may be further depending on conditions.
The crew will carry enough food for 40 days (6,500 calories each per day), but may ration supplies to a
maximum of 50 days if required.
With the right conditions, the crew can row an average 100 miles per day.
The Atlantic Ocean is unpredictable and presents many dangers to the crew... the row could end
abruptly at any moment at which point the official time will be set.
The record has stood for 15 years and survived 25 attempts to break it since 1992.
