Your Win a Toyota Competition Questions Answered

1. What is the prize?
A brand new Toyota AYGO as specified at the time the prize is awarded (March 2008). There will be no cash alternative.

2. What will my donation be used for?
Money raised will go to the MS Society and 25% will be used for national projects, while 75% will be directed towards a new Norwich & District Branch centre.

3. Will my donation be secure?
Yes. This site uses PayPal to process payments and that means we do not need to request or view any financial information from you. Your transaction will be securely handled by PayPal.

4. What happens if the Columbus Run II is abandoned on the first day or before the crew reaches the West Indies finish line?
The qualifying time submitted that is closet to the official time that the challenge is deemed to be cancelled/abandoned will be declared the winner.

5. How will the official crossing time be recorded?
The ORS will be the official adjudicators and will provide the time keeping. There will be several GPS devices on board to help validate the time.

6. Where can I see how the row is progressing?
You will be able to track progress on the Ocean Rowing Events (ORE) and Ocean Rowing Society (ORS) websites and we'll run a clock on this website. If you are the winner, we will contact you directly.

7. What will the weather be like?
With the hurricane season usually over in November, the month of December should provide the best conditions for the crossing. However, the French team completed the record during April. December is expected to be a good rowing month in the region.

8. How many miles will the crew row each day?
With the right conditions La Mondiale could cover around 100 miles per day.

9. Will the boat be rowed at all times and how many will be rowing at any one time?
The 14-man crew will row a shift pattern with 6 oarsman rowing at all times in good conditions while 8 may row in adverse conditions.

10. How much food will be on-board?
The crew will need 6,500 calories a day and will take enough supplies for 40 days at this consumption rate. However, if necessary they can ration the food further to last up to 50 days.
